A Book by Hisham Khalid Abbas

A reflection on three decades inside Iraqi banking — on the quiet decisions that sit behind every transaction, the people who carry them, and the invoice that, in the end, must always be settled.

The Last Invoice is the first book by Hisham Khalid Abbas, released in 2025 and distributed in bookshops and markets across Iraq. It is part memoir, part field notebook from a career spent inside Iraqi banks, regulators, and boardrooms during one of the most turbulent and formative periods in the country’s modern financial history.

Drawing on his work as Risk Management Director at Babylon Bank, his time as Deputy Director of Anti-Money Laundering, and his service as Board Member and Head of the Risk Committee at the Credit Bank of Iraq, the book takes the reader behind the doors that most people never see — the committees, the late evening calls, the quiet refusals, and the long arithmetic of a sector rebuilding itself in real time.

The Last Invoice was released in 2025 and is currently distributed through bookshops and book markets across Iraq, including Baghdad’s Al-Mutanabbi Street.
